When creating a presentation, it’s easy to get caught up focusing on the content — after all, it is the meat of any deck. But we can’t forget that if this information is not presented in an engaging way, its impact will not be as great. In other words: Design matters.
Below are 13 powerful design quotes from Leonardo Da Vinci, Bruno Munari and more, along with lessons you can implement for your own presentations.
Lesson: Follow the rule “less is more” with your slide design. You must avoid every temptation to use too much text or over-complicated charts and graphs. A storyboard can make simplicity easier to attain. Storyboards give you the opportunity to remove unnecessary elements. Your presentations will be more sophisticated, and your design process will be more efficient.
Lesson: Outsource design if you need. Design is a skill that develops over time, and there should be no shame in admitting design as a weakness. Interested in taking a first crack at it? Start with these tips for choosing the right photos for your decks.
Lesson: Quality design is critically important. Take for instance the world of industrial design — an Apple product looks vastly different than another competitor’s product. Pensamento lateral


Há uma história sensacional que se passa durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Um mecânico dedicava-se a estudar a blindagem de aviões de combate em suas áreas mais frágeis. Seu objetivo era reduzir as muitas baixas de soldados e aeronaves norte-americanas.



Ao examinar os aviões que retornavam às bases aéreas, este mecânico – cujo nome era Abraham Wald –, detectou um ladrão de áreas atingidas na fuselagem das aeronaves. Com pequenas variações o sinistro se localizava sempre numa área que pouco variava de um avião para outro.

Assim que determinou este padrão, Wald partiu para formular um novo modelo de blindagem que, em primeira análise, sugeriria a aplicação de mais proteção nas áreas constantemente atingidas pelos ataques inimigos.

Mas para surpresa geral, quando ele fez a apresentação dos resultados de seu estudo, Wald mudou completamente a tendência do pensamento predominante. Ele teve um insight fantástico. Sugeriu um modelo de reforço e blindagem que protegia diversas áreas das aeronaves, exceto todas aquelas que eram mais frequentemente atingidas. E justificou sua conclusão por aquela falsa percepção que nos empurra a enxergar o que devemos fazer pelo viés do sucesso, sem levar em conta que o fracasso adota o mesmo padrão, e poderá vir no mesmo pacote.

Explicando melhor. Se os aviões eram atingidos quase sempre no mesmo lugar e ainda assim voltavam para as bases, estava claro que as avarias naqueles pontos não eram fatais. Muito provavelmente os aviões abatidos, e que não podiam ser avaliados, apresentariam buracos de bala em áreas diferentes daquelas estatisticamente mais afetadas.

Muitas vezes – ou sempre – devemos olhar mais para os fracassos e aprender com eles, para, assim,  atingirmos o sucesso com que sonhamos.
